By default, the VIP File System automatically converts and serves all images located in a site’s /uploads/
directory as next-gen formats (including *.webp

The default path structure for URLs of files uploaded to a site’s WordPress Media Library is /wp-content/uploads/YYYY/MM/
. An uploaded file will have a URL structure similar to: https://example.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/file.jpg
Files stored on the VIP File System can be overwritten programmatically or with VIP-CLI. Overwriting a file is useful for eliminating the need to set a redirect to a newer version of the file. Redirects cannot be configured for any URLs that include /wp-content/uploads/*
.
Media files associated with a WordPress environment can be viewed and downloaded in the application view of the VIP Dashboard.
The VIP File System recognizes a limited set of file types as valid. Any files of a type that are included in this set can be imported to the File System with VIP-CLI.
By default, image metadata is not stripped from uploaded images. The GET ?strip=all|info|color
query parameter string can be added to images served by VIP’s File System in order to remove JPEG image Exif, IPTC, comment, and color data from the output image in the browser.
On the VIP Platform, media files that are uploaded to a WordPress site are not stored in a filesystem that is local to the web container. Instead, an API is used to store the uploaded files in a separate read-only service called the VIP File System. The VIP File System is an external, globally distributed object store.
Media can be imported to the VIP File System with VIP-CLI. This is especially useful for migrating from an existing WordPress site to a site hosted on the VIP Platform.
The VIP File System performs core image processing with a built-in image transformation service similar to Site Accelerator (previously Photon). By default, all images loaded from a site’s wp-content/uploads/
will utilize the VIP File System’s image transformation service and leverage the VIP Platform’s CDN.
Media files uploaded to a WordPress production environment are automatically shared with and available to associated non-production environments. This eliminates the need to copy media between environments as long as the development workflow follows code moving up, and content moving down.
