Local development
Developing code, debugging code, and performing minor testing can be more convenient on a local development environment than on a non-production VIP Platform environment. To create a local environment that most closely replicates a VIP Platform environment, VIP recommends the VIP Local Development Environment feature built into VIP-CLI.
Supported local development option
The VIP Local Development Environment has the same web stack as a VIP Platform environment (e.g., WordPress, NGINX, PHP) built-in, and loads the production branch of VIP MU plugins that supplies VIP Platform integrations, enhancements, and helper functions.
Multiple local environments can be created and configured with their own unique settings, including versions of software (e.g., WordPress, PHP), WordPress multisite, and optionally enabling features such as Elasticsearch and XDebug.
Because it is built and maintained by VIP, VIP Support can assist with any questions or issues related to the VIP Local Development Environment.
Unsupported local development options
Customers can choose to use a local development app other than the VIP Local Development Environment. Documentation is provided to help customers set up the required codebases for a VIP application on an alternative local development app. However, VIP is not able to provide support for any local development app other than the VIP Local Development Environment.
