Upgrade to Elasticsearch 8
After testing is complete, upgrade your production environment to Elasticsearch 8 whenever you are ready.
When you are ready to complete the upgrade:
- Return to the VIP Dashboard for the correct application.
- Select “Integrations” from the sidebar navigation at the left of the screen.
- Locate Enterprise Search in the list of Integrations in the App Integrations panel.
- On the right-hand side of the Enterprise Search row, select the linked text with the value “Configure” to access the Configure Integration panel.
- Select the button labeled “Upgrade to Elasticsearch 8”. We recommend that you take this action during a low-traffic period to minimize any potential impact.
The upgrade process typically completes within a minute.
Your site’s search functionality will continue to work throughout the upgrade process.
It is possible that the “Upgrade Queued” status message will display for longer than you expect. To ensure performance stability, there is a concurrency limit placed on Elasticsearch upgrade jobs. This can cause some upgrades to require a greater amount of time to complete depending on the number of requests that are queued.
Note
For a WordPress multisite environment, the upgrade to Elasticsearch 8 will occur simultaneously for every network site that has Enterprise Search enabled.
Option to downgrade to Elasticsearch 7
Once an upgrade to Elasticsearch 8 has begun, you cannot cancel it. However, once the upgrade process is complete you will have the option to downgrade to Elasticsearch 7 if needed.
The option to downgrade will remain available for 7 days. If the environment is still set to Elasticsearch 7 when the 7 day period expires, the environment will be automatically upgraded to Elasticsearch 8.
If you downgrade to Elasticsearch 7 because of unexpected issues that occurred after an upgrade to Elasticsearch 8, we recommend that you continue to test and work towards resolving the issues as soon as possible.
